Private Pilot Training

Private Pilot training is accomplished in the Flight Design CTLS a proven Light Sport airplane that has been used to train many pilots to fly. Because the CTLS has a low operating cost, you will be able to train at a lower cost and accomplish all requirements for a Private Pilot certificate.





Private Pilot Eligibility
  • Be at least 17 years of age
  • Be able to read, speak, write and understand English
Private Pilot Limitations
  • May not carry passengers or property for compensation or hire
Before you solo you will need to have:
  • Student Pilot certificate
  • Medical certificate
  • Complete all pre‐solo flight training including, but not limited to:
  •                   Pre‐flight    Taxing    Takeoffs    Climbs    Turns    Landing    Emergency Procecures
  • Flight instructor endorsements
  • Be able to competently and safely fly the airplane in the local area
NOTE:     There is no minimum flight hour requirement for solo flights, but your solo privileges are at the                         discretion.

Before the practical test you will need to:
  • Pass the Private Pilot aeronautical knowledge test with a score of 70% or better
  • Completed at a minimum 40 hours flight time
  • Flight instructors endorsements
40 Hour Flight Time Breakdown

            20 Hours of flight training which includes:
  •         8 hours of various maneuvers and procedures
  •         3 hours of cross country flight
  •         3 hours of night flying
                            One cross country flight over 100 nautical miles total distance
                            Ten night landings to a full stop
  •         3 hours of light by reference to the instruments including the use of radio communication,                          navigation systems and radar facilities.
  •         3 hours of preparation within 60 days of the practical test.
                10 Hours of solo flight of which includes:
  •         5 Hours of various maneuvers and procedures
                                3  solo takeoffs and landings to a full stop at an airport with an operating control.
  •          5 Hours cross country flight time
                               One flight of least 150 nautical miles with 3 landings, including one leg of at least 50                                                        nautical miles  straigat ht line distance from takeoff to landing.

NOTE:     While the regulations require a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, 50 to 70 hours is more likely. As with your solo flight it is up to you and your instructors discretion when you take the practical test.
